First Cycle

FIRST CYCLE: The first cycle is basically and introduction to secondary school/ college curriculum which prepares you for the general certificate of education examS (GCE). This begins with an entry as from form one (1) right to form five (5) which then the student sits in for the GCE. At Kamza Bilingual College and Technical College we provide a wide range of subject experience to allow pupils to develop a wide spectrum of skills and knowledge. Subjects include;

Core Subjects:
Mathematics: Covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and basic statistics.
English Language: Focuses on comprehension, writing, and grammar skills.

Science: Can be taken as individual subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, or as a combined Science course.

Optional Subjects include;
Humanities: History, Geography, Religious Studies, Literature, Logic, Citizenship, etc
Languages: Modern languages (French, Spanish, etc.) or classical languages (Latin, Greek).
Arts and Technology: Art, Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Computer Science
Social Sciences: Economics, Business Studies, Sociology, Commerce
Practical and Vocational Subjects: Home Economics, Physical Education

  • Duration of first cycle: Typically 5 years
  • Classes: Form 1 to Form 5
  • Age Group: Usually 14-16 years old
  • Minimum subjects: Students typically take 7-9 subjects.
  • Examinations: GCE Ordinary level.

 

FRENCH SECTION

  • Examination :Brevet d’Études du Premier Cycle
  • (BEPC) Duration: Typically 4 years (collège)
  • Age Group: Usually 11-15 years old

Structure: The BEPC is awarded at the end of “collège” (middle school) after 4 years of study.

Core Subjects:

French: Focuses on literature, grammar, writing, and comprehension skills.
Mathematics: Covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data handling, and basic problem-solving.
Sciences: General Science includes topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
History-Geography: Covers historical events, geographical knowledge, and civic education.
Modern Languages: Typically English or another foreign language.
Technology: Basics of technology, including ICT skills and general technological understanding.

Physical Education: Focuses on physical fitness and various sports.
Art and Music Education: Basic art and music skills, creativity, and appreciation.
Assessment: Continuous assessment throughout the school years.
Final written exams in French, Mathematics, and History-Geography.
An oral exam in French.
A brief oral or written assessment in the student’s chosen modern language.
